Make-A-Wish is granting Gareth’s wish. They’re cutting the check for RBR today and Rob (owner of RBR) is putting in the order this week.
In 2 months, Gareth will have a Hase Pino tandem bike. I’m just coming along to steer.
In what must be a sign from the dark netherworld, this episode of Metalocalypse was broadcast the same day that the Make-A-Wish Foundation paid us a visit to hear Gareth’s wish.
As a potential M-A-W beneficiary family, I suppose I should be outraged at the portrayal of the program in that episode. But god damn, did I laugh. And wait for the end - it’s worth it.
Brutal.

Ha, that was awesome. Had a great time teaching the kids about kayaking, and they had an equally great time playing in the boat. I should do this kind of thing more often.
Our meeting with the Make-A-Wish folks happens this Sunday. They asked if Gareth was leaning towards anything in particular, so I told them about the bike. That seemed to go over well, but, of course, they don’t yet know how much it costs.
I’m taking a half day off tomorrow to go teach 3-5 year olds about kayaking. Should be fun. I’ve borrowed some kid size PFDs from a local outfitter, printed up coloring pages of kayak imagery, and have my gear packed and ready to go. Thank goodness my boat is beat up - I’m going to have 20 kids crawling all over it tomorrow.

Halloween wasn’t too bad. Gareth did his treating at the mall (it’s easier to wheel him around there), I won “Most Courageous Costume” at work. And then Gareth went and lost his first tooth.
Pretty eventful, actually.
